David Gurevich, age 83, passed away June 8, 2003 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Russia where he served in the Russian Military during World War II. David went on to become a Professor of Physics and taught at the Russian Air Force Academy, retiring as a Colonel after 33 years. His passion in life was chess, which he started playing from age 9. David continued on to become a nationally recognized expert player, winning numerous national titles and was ranked #59 among seniors in the United States. Upon retirement, he also continued teaching chess to children at the Chess Emporium Club. He is survived by his son George (Irina), grandchildren Paul (Regina) and Miriam, and a great-grand-child David.
